When students hear about Employees Provident Fund (EPF), most think it’s just for workers and retirement planning – something to worry about after graduating and starting a salary. But the truth is, EPF isn’t just for those already in the workforce. Even students can start early, as EPF accounts can be opened from the age of 14, giving young people a head start on their financial future.

To encourage students to start saving, EPF, through the Program Literasi Kewangan Simpan Baik-Baik (PLKSBB), has stepped up its on-ground efforts to reach even more students. Now in its fourth year, PLKSBB wrapped up its university visits for 2025 at UiTM Penang’s Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR). From 4 to 6 November 2025, the library was buzzing with energy as students explored financial literacy games, learned about saving, and discovered the importance of planning for the future – all in a fun, interactive way.
The excitement didn’t stop there. Influencers like BenangbyNini and Irdina Hani joined the fun, alongside celebrities such as Alif Satar & The Locos, Kucaimars, and Emeer Bakri. Their presence drew crowds and sparked curiosity about saving – exactly what PLKSBB sets out to do. Learning about finance doesn’t have to be boring; it can be engaging, relatable, and student-friendly, showing the real value of starting to save early.
So, wondering how EPF can benefit you as a student? Even without a full-time job, you can start saving and building your future fund today. Getting a head start on financial awareness helps you keep your money in check and be ready for whatever comes next.
These days, many students are already juggling part-time jobs, small businesses, or freelance gigs – and they can contribute to EPF too. The earlier you start, the more time your savings have to grow with annual dividends. Getting started is easy: two schemes are available with no fixed monthly commitment:

EPF is all about spreading the ‘Simpan Baik-Baik’ culture, and starting early is the secret to a more secure financial future. For students, even small contributions can grow into something big over time – so start building your savings today!
