Fuel, electricity, and other necessary commodities, for example, help keep prices stable and help our lower-income population, particularly in times of high inflation.
With Malaysia being a significant player in the oil and gas sector, these subsidies are not just economic tools but are important for maintaining affordability and quality of life for us. Did you know that in 2022, a whopping RM 62 billion was pumped into keeping things like fuel and electricity affordable? That’s a lot of zeros! But fortunately, the government is now shifting their focus towards a more centered subsidy approach in the 2024 budget.
